18th International youth conference: оfficial opening of the conference

5th of November 2020 | 10.00 am – 11.00 am

The official opening ceremony took place on 5th of November, 2020 from 10:00 am till 11:00 am. The ceremony was opened by Ms. Matea Atanasoska, volunteer in Youth Alliance – Krusevo. Matea has started the conference emphasizing that in 2003 young ambitious people from different countries gathered together in order to share their ideas and values in a place where they felt like their voice matters – the International Youth Conference. 18 years have passed, and this conference is still a safe spot for young leaders whose goal is to implement the European values as the future of the Southeastern European countries. This introduction was perfect entering of the Mr. Metodija Stojceski welcoming speech that he started with “Over the last 18 years, the conference has made tremendous contributions in supporting, networking and encouraging the young people to be drivers for positive changes, resulting in impacts in many sectors of our region. At this conference let us celebrate what we, as a professional community, have achieved. Additionally, our future vision is to create even greater value to all corners of the region. This conference will be one for us to share our thoughts and exchange ideas on how to chart our journey forward to reach new heights and region we want to leave in”. After being welcomed by the hosts, H.E. Anke Gisela Holstein, German ambassador in Republic of North Macedonia started her speech with “I really like the slogan be a voice not an echo. This is really what young people need to be!”. Furthermore, she gave food for thoughts to the young people with “Not only the BREXIT, but populism too is weakening the EU. The insight of young people are not sufficiently heard. Young people are very important for the European future”. After H.E. Gisela Holstein the opening session continued with the welcoming speech with H.E. Mr. David Geer, EU Ambassador in North Macedonia. His speech inspired the young people particularly with the following elements “Although, we are divided in different countries, I believe we are united in spirit and strong commitment to European values. The European Union has a youth very high on its agenda. Pluralism, non-discrimination, equality, justice, solidarity, multiculturalism, the EU values need to be constantly renewed and protected by the overpower full companies.” Finally, Ms. Eva Ellereit, country director of FES, office Skopje, wrapped the official opening with “To change the perspective, that what the Krusevo Conference is. Solidarity in EU values means that our society cannot be judged by how high we can go with our power, but how down we can fall.”
